4 reasons to always use oil based lube during sex

Somewhere along the line of sexual stigma, lubricant fell into the shame pile. It was relegated to only being used if you ‘have a problem’ getting wet, or don’t have the skill to induce the natural flow. Of course, while oil based lube does increase wetness and can make things a whole lot easier and more comfortable if dryness presents an issue (which can and does occur for many different reasons at any age), that’s not the only reason for using it. In fact, most ‘sexperts’ will tell you that you should always use lube during sex and masturbation too! Because why would you not make the most of something so simple, that can enhance pleasure instantly and exponentially?

CBD lube takes things to a whole new level too, because with this product you’re not only getting the standard benefits of lubricant, but the benefits of CBD too - of which there are many!

So let’s take a look at all the great reasons you should always use an oil based lube during sex, and why CBD lube makes things even better.

But first of all, why choose CBD lube?

Because cannabinoids (like CBD) are fat-soluble molecules, when applied topically (as with a CBD lube) they stay put and get to work on the local area, being delivered primarily to local nerves, muscles, glands and immune cells. This is great news when using CBD during sex or foreplay because this nifty little molecule has been shown to reduce inflammation and increase blood flow which results in vasodilation (the dilation of blood vessels) allowing for fresh oxygenated blood to flow and enhance pleasure.

Endocannabinoid receptors that make up the endocannabinoid system (which CBD interacts with) are abundant in the female reproductive tract, with the densest concentration in the uterus. They’re also found in every skin cell, and therefore all over our genitals. This system is thought to play a vital role in reproduction, but also in the influence and regulation of both pleasure and pain, inflammation, muscle contraction and hormone secretion.

By applying a topical an oil based lube containing CBD, many women find that their discomfort is eased and enjoyment enhanced.

Lubricant oil makes it easier to orgasm

Studies have shown that just by using lube you can increase your chance of an orgasm by 50%! Eric Garrison, a consulting sexologist in New York City and Boston, told Cosmopolitan "With a little extra lube, every touch and thrust will feel smoother and more pleasurable” - and he’s right! A 2013 study found (unsurprisingly) that 9 out of 10 women felt sex was “more comfortable, pleasurable and simply better” when using lubrication.

Oil based lube reduces friction

We don’t really talk about these things enough, and because of that many people don’t realise that 30% of women between the ages of 18 - 59 say they have trouble with vaginal lubrication during sex. There’s no shame in this, it’s just a thing. It can be related to hormones (it changes throughout the menstrual cycle), stress, alcohol and certain medications, like contraceptive pills.

While quite normal, this can lead to unwanted friction during sex which can easily result in irritation and even tears down below! And no one wants that. The best way to avoid friction is to lube up! It’s a quick, simple fix which sorts this problem in an instant.

Natural lube reduces pain during sex

Pain during intercourse is also very common. It’s estimated that 3 out of 4 women will experience pain during sex at some point in their lives for a wide variety of reasons. The aforementioned friction can be a big culprit, but as well as this pain might be triggered by tension or even conditions such as vulvodynia. While lubricant oil won’t solve pain during sex (some, for example, might need specialised therapy or medications) it can make a tremendous difference just by making everything easier. A study performed by researchers at Indiana University found that women who used lube during sex reported significantly less pain and much higher levels of satisfaction.

Oil lube makes sex safer

Using lubricant oil makes it far less likely that you’ll experience any sort of injury, such as tearing, during sex. And they can also offer another level of protection against STIs, by reducing the risk of condoms tearing too - but remember, only ever use water or silicone-based lubricants with latex condoms, not oil based lubes.

How to use oil based lube

Oil based lubes are really easy to use - you just squirt them out and apply as and when you need to. You can’t use ‘too much’, so have fun!

While most lubricants are designed only for use during sex and contain ingredients you might not want on your vagina all day long, the all-natural Lady A CBD lubricant can also be used to ease any dryness and discomfort throughout the day, giving you longer to reap the benefits of CBD.
